Venkatesh Iyer’s Family

Born in a south Indian family in the city of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Iyer admired cricket in his childhood. Like every other kid, he too was fond of playing cricket with his friends. While continuing his schooling at St. Paul Higher Senior Secondary school, he took professional training at a local cricket club. There he was highly appreciated for his wicket-keeping and batting talent. Moreover, he was a decent student, and he pursued B.Com from DAVV university in Indore. Although Iyer took up the degree of CA simultaneously with B.Com but due to his love for cricket, he completed MBA rather than a CA degree. His family was supportive in every decision and encouraged him to play sports wholeheartedly.

Iyer’s Career

Venkatesh Iyer even in his childhood participated in various competitions and tournaments offered by his school and local state sports club. His first debut match was against Railways for Syed Mushtaq Trophy in 2015. Interestingly, this particular game followed the T20 format, where he performed as a wicket-keeper and as a batsman, representing Madhya Pradesh proudly.

Initially, he played as a wicket-keeper and batsman for his team. It was later after the U-19 level, that he got selected as an all-rounder. After achieving this label, he played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy that represented the List-A match against Saurashtra. Here he performed exceptionally well with a score of 198 runs in 146 balls crashing the top record of renowned cricketer David Warner of Australia.

Immediately after this success, he got a chance to debut in the famous Ranji trophy (2018- 2019) against Hyderabad on 6 December 2018. He reportedly played 38 T20 games for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that aided in increasing his cricket profile immensely. He bagged a whopping 21 wickets in total.

Venkatesh Iyer’s Recent Achievements

With his steady powerpack performances, he got selected as an IPL player for Kolkata Knight Riders in February 2021. His first debut for IPl was against Royal challengers Bangalore on 20 September 2021. Subsequently, after this, he achieved his first maiden in IPL against Mumbai Indians. His performance in the IPL was a remarkable one and experts believe that he catalysed the team into finals. Moreover, because of his extravagant performance, he stayed in UAE for ICC T20 World Cup as a net bowler and victoriously made his first debut in T20I on 17 November 2021 against New Zealand.

Through dedication and consistency, Venkatesh Iyer has made his family, friends, and society proud. With every tournament he plays, he is reaping success momentarily and is the pride of Indore city.
