Observed annually on August 13, World Organ Donation Day raises awareness about the importance of organ donation and encourages individuals to donate their organs after death. On this day, all are welcomed to come ahead and pledge to donate their precious organs to save lives.

About Organ Donation

Organ donation is a process in which a person willingly donates an organ of his body to another person. Organ donation provides relief and consolation to many donor families. The reason for this is that they are aware that their loved one has saved other people’s lives. The most notable aspect is that an individual can save up to eight lives. Donating organs could remove the depression and pain of others.

Apex Foundation

Apex Foundation was founded in 2008 by a philanthropist and five nephrologists. The foundation had a two-point agenda. First, to work towards the prevention of kidney diseases by educating the general population and through early detection. Second, to support those who are already affected with kidney disease in various ways including improving the quality of the care delivered by educating dialysis technicians and doctors, help in running charities, encouraging kidney transplantation, and provide financial and logistic help. From the beginning, the foundation’s office-bearers have worked hard to accomplish this goal. It maintains a swap donation registry in our country.

In addition, they provide kidney disease prevention counseling to high-risk patients such as diabetics, hypertensive, and hereditary kidney disease patients. Through cadaver, paired kidney exchanges, and live-related organ donation, they strive to increase kidney transplantation rates.

Donating an organ is a noble act, demonstrating an individual’s contribution even after death. Many lives can be saved through organ donation. Even though organ donation isn’t so common in India, we hope with the help of organizations like this, donations will increase in the future.
