Leading by Example: Female Entrepreneurs of India

When an enterprise is established and controlled by a woman, it not only boosts economic growth but also boosts the confidence of other women.

“Women entrepreneurship” is becoming a global phenomenon and in India, it became prominent in the latter half of the eighties.

In this article, we’ll be looking at some of the startups founded by women of our country.

 

ADITI GUPTA

Aditi Gupta is the founder of menstrupedia, a comic book that illustrates and educates people on menstruation. Aditi started it after being affected by society’s misconceptions and taboos. Menstupedia became a partner with whisper India for their school contact program and presented the “touch the pickle” initiative. Aditi Gupta’s comics have been translated into Spanish and other languages too.

 

VANDANA LUTHRA

Vandana is the founder of VLCC, a company that offers beauty, body slimming, grooming, and dermat services. In 2013, she was awarded Padma Shri by the then Indian President Pranab Mukherjee. Vandana also runs an NGO named Khushi which offers educational scholarships for the underprivileged and differently-abled.

 

RASHMI SINHA

Slideshare is a content-sharing platform that allows you to upload presentations. Rashmi was listed in the world’s Top 10 Women Influencers on the Web. Slideshare has now been bought by Scribd, inc. 

Rashmi has also designed many companies’ websites.

 

SAIREE CHAHAL 

Sairee founded SHEROES in the year 2013, it’s a social platform for women where women can share their interests through videos and posts, use the free women helpline, get free health advice, find and share recipes, make new friends, get advice, get free beauty tips and much more. Sheroes also aims at connecting companies to women professionals.  Engaging brand marketers who are looking to engage with urban-educated women.
